Dear Pre-K Families,

Welcome to the Pre-K classroom! We are looking forward to a year of learning, playing, making new friends and special memories. We will focus on your child’s social and academic skills in order to prepare them to transition into kindergarten.

In the month of September we will focus on classroom rules, following instructions and the proper pencil grip by tracing lines and shapes. We do this in order to get them ready to print the letters of the alphabet. They will learn the sound that each letter makes, letter recognition and printing of upper and lower case letters. On most Wednesdays we will send home a letter page as homework for them to complete and return to school for teacher praise and a sticker. The children will also be taught how to print their first and last name. Please remember when practicing this at home to use upper case only for the first letter of their name, followed by lower case letters.

We are starting this year with the children learning about their five senses. They will learn this through lessons, stories and crafts and some apple tasting when they learn about their sense of taste. Artwork will be displayed in the classroom and hallway for the month and be sent home at the end of each month.

Please see me or any of the classroom teacher with any questions or concerns or if you would like additional practice sheets sent home for your child.

Each month the children will learn a new prayer that they will recite before snack.

Following is the prayer for the month of September:

We thank you for this happy day,

With food to eat and friends to play.
